Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
If you’re searching for a unique, photo-worthy spot for exploring with your pup, the Ruins of Zog I in the Muttontown Preserve near Syosset, New York, is an intriguing destination. This site offers historic ruins, interesting graffiti, and picturesque trails winding through a blend of forest and open fields, all set within a larger preserve that’s popular among hikers and equestrians. The landscape includes varying elevations, wide horse trails, and some narrower, adventure-filled paths.
The preserve itself is known for its scenic beauty and labyrinth of trails, with a QR code trail map at the Equestrian Center entrance. However, dog owners should note that while the area surrounding the ruins can be explored with dogs, the broader Muttontown Preserve restricts dogs due to the presence of horse trails. Always check posted signage and local rules before visiting. There is parking available at the Equestrian Center, but amenities like fenced dog areas, water stations, or waste bags are not specified. Cellular reception may be spotty, so plan ahead for navigation and safety.
So sick. If you can’t find it you need to update your navigational skills because it’s pretty easy Once you park at the equestrian center, keep walking South and eventually you’ll start to see steps or ruins and graffiti. Then the peripheral trails are cool too. Leave your dog and your kids at home, other people on the trail don’t really want your nonsense I was going to write s*** but Google censors.
ALL HAIL. KING ZOG 👑
This area of muttontown preserve is really cool. Not a ton to see tho. The whole preserve is really beautiful and great for day hiking. A mixture of wide trails, for the nearby horses, and more narrow trails, down to some over grown areas that require a little climbing (fallen trees) or crouching to get through. Varying elevation at times but nothing too challenging. Another note on the trails, they can be labyrinthine at times. A lot of loops and intersections. Would recommend bringing a compass as cell reception is spotty. That helped us get out when it was getting close to dark. Also, Because of the horses, your puppers aren’t allowed anywhere in the muttontown preserve. But because of those horses, and the people that care for them, the trails are really well maintained.
really cool place to visit and take photos at, it’s not as much as i would have hoped, but it is really easy to get to so; 🤷♂️ there’s u can get some beautiful photos there, along with a short hike. just beware of the bourse 💩, the trails are there for the hourses. i took amazing photos with my dog 🐕
It’s a fun place to see and one of the more unique hiking spots. Just wish there wasn’t so much trash and broken bottles around the ruins, no respect.
Also they have a QR Code at the entrance by the Equestrian Center that can be scanned to supply you a trail map if you need one.
It’s a cool area to explore, not sure I like graffiti art style on foundation ruins and inside of the walled garden. Ruins are definitely adding to the charm of hiking the preserve. Easy to reach from equestrian center entrance, but also relatively straightforward to get from Bill Paterson center’s trails.
