Located in the scenic foothills of Sylmar, Veterans Memorial Community Regional Park is one of the largest outdoor destinations in the area, offering a welcoming space for dog owners and their furry companions. The park features acres of open space with plenty of shady spots thanks to its mature trees, making it perfect for pet-friendly hikes and outdoor activities. The grounds are clean, well-maintained, and provide a peaceful backdrop for both relaxation and recreation.
While the park does not feature a dedicated fenced dog area, it is dog-friendly and permits leashed dogs throughout its many trails and open spaces. Unique amenities include extensive hiking trails, barbecue grills, picnic tables, large playgrounds for children, and accessible facilities like restrooms and wheelchair-friendly parking. With ample parking and regular safety patrols, Veterans Memorial Community Regional Park stands out as a safe, pet-friendly spot for families and dog lovers seeking outdoor fun in Sylmar, California.
Its a great place for a peaceful picnic or a good hike and its Always clean
Was there to play disc golf. When you enter the park, go left for ~ 75 yards, on your left. This area is not very grassy like the rest of the park but you can’t have people picnicking and getting hit in the neck by a disc at 40 mph, so it is pretty separate from the nicer areas. A number of elevation changes which makes it interesting. Every platform is concrete. We didn’t use the UDisc app so you pay attention to the maps where the next tee will be, since they don’t have the little directional markers at the bottom of the baskets. Went on a weekday, not crowded.
This park is enormous! It’s beautiful and full of trees which provide a lot of shade. It’s always kept very clean and that includes the public restrooms! It’s also safe with police patrolling throughout the day. There’s plenty of parking and open space so that you’re never too close to other people. They have a very large playground for kids with plenty of slides and things to do to keep them busy.
This trail’s no joke if you take the steeper route — like the one in the pics. It’s only about 2 miles round trip, but it climbs quick and gets your legs burning. Definitely a good workout. There are some more moderate paths if you want something easier, but if you’re up for the challenge, the incline will make you earn it.
On a clear day, the views are legit — you can see across the valley. This time it was super foggy, which honestly gave it a cool vibe, almost peaceful and quiet. Whether you want to hike, train, or just zone out, this trail delivers. Just bring water and good shoes — it’s not flat park strolling.
5 star anything is a unicorn but this park is closer to a 5 than 4 so here we are. Large park with great spots all around for play, relaxation and enjoying the outdoors. My photos attached will tell a better story than I can articulate. No dog waste bags. No basketball or tennis/pickle ball courts and could use more picnic tables and/or pavilions but that’s nitpicking because you have acres and acres of real estate, parking, restrooms and beautiful, old tress and grounds to have a great time.
