🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Sunland Recreation Center, located in the heart of Sunland, CA, offers a pet-friendly outdoor space ideal for local families, dog owners, and community members seeking a safe place to enjoy the outdoors. Featuring easy wheelchair accessibility and plenty of parking, this park is especially popular with families and dog lovers who appreciate the scenic mountain views and open grassy fields. It’s a great spot to stroll with your pups or enjoy seasonal events like the Watermelon Festival!
While the park does not have a dedicated fenced dog park, many dogs and their owners enjoy roaming and playing in the main fields and open areas. The recreation center is known for its kid-friendly amenities, ongoing maintenance by staff, and a strong local following. Though there are reports of a transient community, recent improvements have made this park a cleaner, more welcoming environment for both two-legged and four-legged visitors.
I originally rated this park as a 1 star because I saw a syringe with the needle still attached on the infield of the softball field. There were homeless on the benches and a strange element of people.
However, I was there again and the park has some positives. Many normal people use this park. The bathrooms at one side of the park are locked. This is good because a year ago when I visited this park, people were living in them. There seems to be an attempt to clean up this park and I appreciate it.
I love this park I’ve grown up with this park and it’s a wonderful one to bring with your family play Pokemon go or even just take a stroll around the block highly recommended can’t wait for the Watermelon Festival in the fall.
It’s a park. Lots of riff raff. Nice view of mountains from baseball field.
Mario the Pitbull enjoyed it. He needs a home!!!!!
He is living at Alhambra Vet on Mission in the City of Alhambra. Rescued from death from South LA Shelter now with nowhere to go
Park bathrooms are kept closed except for 2 Port O Johns by the parking lot that are shared with the local transient community.
Problem here is even before the surplus of homeless these facilities were not being maintained up to standard.
Park staff is present during day as I witnessed them performing other maintenance tasks around the area.
Park staff keeping a clean set of restrooms for the children going forward should be priority and no excuses of the transient community will just destroy them.
Pictures included of restroom facilities.
Not bad for visiting to Sunland Park very first time. Really nice!! I feel comfortable so refreshing!! A lot of kids & family especially dogs roaming and playing around at the playground field for fun! inside the restroom is cleaned. Employees doing a great job. I’ve experienced it all. Highly recommend. Of course the water melon festival, events, birthday parties, car show and much more!! Watch out for homeless people. That’s all. Have fun. I’ll be back soon as I will.
