Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Oro Vista Park is a welcoming green space located at the base of the Angeles Crest in Sunland, California. Known for its wide open fields, rugged trails, and pet-friendly atmosphere, this spot is popular with dog owners looking for adventurous, dog-friendly hiking experiences. The park features plenty of parking, picnic tables, and easy access to scenic hiking trails that run along the river, making it a perfect destination for dog lovers and families alike.
While Oro Vista Park is not a dedicated fenced-in dog park, it is a beautiful area to bring your leashed dog for nature walks and outdoor activities. Visitors are advised to keep dogs on leash due to local wildlife such as coyotes and raccoons, and to stay mindful of ticks, fleas, and rough terrain. Kids can enjoy the open space and the park’s basic exercise equipment, with plenty of nature to explore. Remember to bring your own water, shade, and purchase a parking voucher before heading to the trailhead.
This park is very simple it has some cool exercise equipment but it’s a very basic park with only a few benches and a big field of bushes and thorns and coyotes and ticks and fleas and it’s summertime you got to watch out cuz you’re in the jungle baby. The tujunga wash is a really cool place to hang out if you’re not afraid of you know things that live in the hills and at the base of these hills mostly coyotes raccoons skunks rabbits and on occasion a mountain lion or two and dear as well so don’t be stupid pay attention to your surroundings and go prepared you know carry a knife maybe if you’re going to go deep into the washer up onto the mountain. Just remember there are wild animals here. So keep your Head on a swivel. That said it’s very rare that a mountain lion attacks a person or a coyote attacks a person but it does happen so if you’re alone make sure you’ve got you know a big knife and the ability to defend yourself against the common predators including humans.
Nobody picks up their dog’s poo there. We found an old suitcase and carried garbage out of the creek. There were several people living along the creek bed. Ashamed because it’s really a beautiful location that people insist on destroying 😞
Oro Vista Park was recommended to us by a friend and it was spectacular. There is plenty of parking and it is easy to get to the trail head. You can go up the river or down. We went down the river and were very pleased with the life all over the river. There was plenty of ducks, birds, squirrels and all kinds of little critters. It is at the base of Angles Crest and a very nice hike.
We will be going back and doing the hike upstream next time.
