Forsythe Meadow County Park offers dog owners and outdoor enthusiasts a scenic, pet-friendly trail experience right in the heart of Stony Brook, New York. This charming, wooded park features well-marked hiking loops—such as the 1.2-mile main white trail and options for shorter walks—which are popular with families, kids, and dogs alike. The picturesque bamboo forest and sightings of local wildlife make each visit truly memorable.
While there are no fenced, off-leash dog runs, the trails are popular for dog-friendly hiking on-leash. The park is known for its tranquil atmosphere, making it ideal for those seeking a peaceful experience away from crowded dog parks. Parking is limited to just a few cars, preserving the park’s hidden-gem ambience. Please remember that Forsythe Meadow is a carry-in, carry-out park, so visitors must bring home all waste and trash.
Amazing short hike the bamboo makes the whole hike
A beautiful hidden gem that we visit almost weekly. A 1.2 mile loop that I could do again and and again and again!
Nice, quiet little trail hidden in Stony Brook. Parking for about 4 cars only. As long as it remains ‘hidden’ it’s a really nice place for a casual walk by yourself or with your dogs. It’s a carry out trail, so pick up after your dogs and carry all garbage out.
Literally my favorite park on the island. The trail isn’t long, but it’s absolutely beautiful, plus there is a bamboo forrest and plenty of wild life.
Lovely walk in the woods. Well marked trail. Yellow trail brings you from parking to main white trail, which is a loop. blue trail cuts across white trail in case you’re looking for an even shorter hike. Enjoyable for kids and dogs. Parking for 3-4 cars only, although there appears to be another entrance on Hawkins rd.
