🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Located in Sterling, Virginia, the W & OD Parking Lot – Ashburn offers easy access to the popular Washington & Old Dominion Trail, making it a great starting point for pet-friendly trails and dog-friendly hiking adventures. This facility is known for its wheelchair accessible entrance and parking lot, ensuring an inclusive experience for all visitors. Nature lovers and dog owners alike appreciate the scenic surroundings, regular sightings of wildlife, and the well-maintained paths.
The parking lot is spacious, though it can get busy on weekends and during the summer. Visitors enjoy the clean, safe, and easily accessible environment. While primary amenities such as fenced dog areas or water fountains for dogs are not mentioned, the key draw is the access to the extensive trail system, ideal for long walks with your furry friend. Whether you’re planning a quick stroll or a lengthy outdoor outing, this pet-friendly spot in Sterling is both practical and enjoyable.
During the summer and on busy days there are not enough parking spots. The lot should be expanded to twice the current size to handle the summer crowds. I Wii say that it is a great improvement over the old gravel parking lot that a couple hundred yards to the east and was accessed off rte 28.
Also, the park authority should add a restroom building here. Some people seem to change into their cycling/running gear in their cars and i am sure many would find it nice to have toilets at the site.
With regards to maintenance and facilities, there are other trails I’ve been to around the country that are 4 and 5 stars in comparison to the W&OD, hence the 3 star rating. And, those better trails aren’t even in rich counties/cities like Loudoun, Fairfax, Falls Church and Arlington.
I enjoy the traile on the weekends
I go for 50 miles or 40 miles
I have ridden on w&od from Herndon to almost Leesburg a few times by myself and with my small kids and husband. I like it a lot. It would be even nicer if they widened it some, because on weekends it gets pretty busy with fast riders, slow riders and walkers. I hope there will be small delis and restaurants, playgrounds or some sort of public area along it so people can grab something to eat. There are a few already now and restrooms. But they’re rare.
Nice place for a quick walk , 40 miles entry point, safe and well maintained
Beautiful bike path very long only few cars crossings if you go early morning you can see deers, turkeys and other animals. There are several parking lots along this trail and this particula is amplw with plenty of spaces to park.
