Dog Mountain, home to the Stephen Huneck Gallery, is a one-of-a-kind dog park in St Johnsbury, Vermont. Renowned for its beautifully maintained pet-friendly trails, off-leash freedom, and expansive grassy fields, this destination is perfect for dog lovers seeking a special place to explore with their pets. What sets Dog Mountain apart isn’t just its rolling hills and scenic views, but the heartfelt Dog Chapel—a tribute where visitors can commemorate their beloved pets with photos and messages.
The park offers open spaces for off-leash play, a pond for swimming, and numerous trails for dog-friendly hiking. Both the gallery and gift shop provide unique canine-themed art and gifts, while the restrooms are spacious and thoughtfully designed with pet owners in mind. Day passes are available for a small donation, ensuring a welcoming, well-maintained destination year-round for both local residents and travelers.
Amazing place for humans and dogs. Be sure to take a walk around the grounds on lovely maintained trails. Sit a spell in the chapel and purchase a piece of art.
My dogs had a BLAST!!! They loved all the freedom to run, the Dog Pond was a huge hit. We went when it was raining, that didn’t slow down my three. The chapel is a beautiful tribute to beloved pets. The gift shop and gallery were amazing. All the grounds were clean and had dog decor all over.
My personal favorite feature was the bathroom. It was huge, you would easily bring your dog there without space being compromised. The dog faucet was a fun feature.
I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a fun place to take your dog.
This place was pretty great- the idea behind it and also the property itself. They do ask for a donation of NULL for a day pass, but it’s totally worth it.
They have a little store where you can see art, and also purchase items. If you bring your dogs in, they need to be leashed in the store.
The chapel is amazing and so pretty and well thought out. Be sure to take a picture of your fur baby that has passed- you can place them on the wall or in the book. Be sure to use tape (they have there) and not use/bring thumb tacks. Also, don’t place any pictuures on the glass, wod, or art (some people felt they were above these requests and brought thumb tacks and placed on the wood, etc. Be respectful!
There are a number of trails you can walk and also a field with a pond where you can let your dog play. We happened to go and there was a guy playing bag pipes, which was awesome.
This is a really great space, please have fun, but be respectful.
Enjoyable afternoon stop while traveling in Vermont. If you have a Labrador Retriever it’s a must see. The Chapel is a beautiful site. The walls are covered with pictures and notes dedicated to everyone’s special dog. The stained glass panels are gorgeous. And the dog sculptures are whimsical. The gallery and gift shop has lots of fun things featuring mostly labs. Bright and colorful creatures are everywhere. Had a good time wandering around.
Such a special place! Highly recommend stopping by for anyone who has/had a dog(s) and/or love dogs. The small chapel is full of dog pics/ letters, and they are very touching. There is also a gift shop with so many cute stuff. It was a bit sad to find out that the store didn’t have any items with poodle designs (we have a poodle ;)) That being said, we had no trouble finding a bunch of adorable gifts for ourselves and friends! The park is very spacious and dogs are allowed to be off-leash. We will def be back.
