Friends of Whitney Dog Park is a spacious, well-maintained dog park located along the scenic Mississippi River in St Cloud, Minnesota. Known for its friendly community and welcoming atmosphere for both first-time and seasoned dog owners, the park offers ample room for your pup to run, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors. Additionally, there are restrooms (an outhouse) available just outside the park entrance. There’s a beautiful wooden bridge crossing the river behind the park. The park itself is spacious, quiet, and shaded with many trees. A doggy fountain. And a pavilion.
We live next to the park and love to bring our Golden Retriever to play in the park but we’ve had our fair share of encounters with people bringing dogs to the park that are unfriendly and/or aggressive and that has steered us away from bringing our dog there several times. Plenty of dog owners who don’t pick up after their dog here and the city occasionally allows the dog waste garbage to fill to the point of overflowing and stinking to high heaven. Also, there’s no lighting in the dog park or adjacent parking lot for after hours.
This is the largest dog park, located along the Mississippi River. The owners had plenty of seating and the 10 to 15 dogs behaved nicely. Garbage was in a wooden box positioned well nearby. I’d love to go again soon with my pooch.
I was fairly nervous at first since I’ve never been to a dog park and, as a first time dog owner, the experience can be daunting. However, the dog owners are incredibly friendly, kind, and welcoming! The dogs at the park have a wonderful attitude too.
The park itself is fairly large with lots of room to run and play. There’s a little space for humans with a roof and picnic tables and several benches scattered around. There’s a water fountain and bowls for the dogs. There’s also a restroom (outhouse) right outside the park entrance.
I haven’t had a bad experience yet! The park is well maintained and all the owners are good at keeping tabs on their dogs. The only thing I’d suggest is getting the park some lights especially once we head into daylight savings time (autumn/winter).
There’s also plenty of trails outside of the dog park and the scenery is beautiful!
Beautiful beautiful beautiful!! Had to give 3 stars not even 2 minutes in dog park with my little puppy. She was mauled to the fence by some mean big white dog. I was in fear for her life. And lady walks over laughing saying “she thought she was a squirrel!!” I replied “LOOK LADY ITS A DOG PARK NOT A SQUIRREL PARK!!” and left. I’m sure I’ll never return.
