Freeway Park: A Pet-Friendly Getaway in Southfield, MI

Freeway Park, conveniently located by I-696 in Southfield, is a welcoming spot for families, dog owners, and anyone looking for green space in the heart of the city. Known for its unique placement as an “overpass park,” it features walking and biking paths that make it perfect for pet-friendly outings and dog-friendly hikes. While compact, the park offers green areas, several picnic tables, a play structure, and easy access to the adjacent Lincoln Woods Nature Preserve.

This park’s accessible entrances and parking make it suitable for wheelchair users, and its open spaces are great for on-leash dog walks and small family picnics. Was so much fun coming back there after twenty-some years however it’s not anywhere near what I remember being but my kids and I still had fun

This is one of the 3 parks over I-696. It feels large with a play structure, green spaces, plazas, and many walking/biking paths. It could use some maintenance and updating. It is directly connected to the Lincoln Woods Nature Preserve via several footpaths.

Always wanted to see the park at I696 just west of Greenfield. You know, The overpass park. My wife and I stopped at Jerusalem pizza and picked up a little picnic lunch and drove less than a mile to the park.
I must say I was a little disappointed. The park equipment was a little rusty and looked abandoned. There were a couple of picnic tables. Not sure if it’s used much anymore.
