If you’re searching for a dog park in Southern Pines, North Carolina that combines pet-friendly trails, wide open spaces, and dog-friendly hiking, Martin Dog Park is a must-visit. Spread across 50 acres with wooded trails, open play areas, and a little stream for pups to splash in, this expansive park offers dogs plenty of room to run, play, and socialize. The park is well maintained, clean, and widely considered a hidden jewel situated just behind Walmart, making it a convenient stop for locals and visitors alike.
Dog owners at Martin Dog Park can enjoy on-leash and off-leash fun, scenic walks, and a dedicated pup playground with agility features. Amenities like water bowls, trash containers, and poop bag dispensers are readily available, ensuring a pleasant visit for everyone. There’s ample shade on the trails, and the friendly atmosphere makes it a welcoming spot for pets and families to spend quality time outdoors.
The grounds themselves are very nice. Large and spacious with lots of places for the dogs to run around (trails in the woods, creeks to jump in and open areas for them to play).
As with every dog park, it’s the dog owners that make or break it. And unfortunately, this one has some BAD ones. I was on a road trip and came here solely for the large open space for my dog to run around. We went first thing in the morning and within 5 minutes of being there 2 dogs beelined for my dog (who was minding her own business sniffing away) and attacked her. This was not rough play – they straight up attacked her. The dog owners (two older men) had to pry their dogs off mine because they wouldn’t listen to them. The owners laughed it off and said their dogs were the welcome committee. I assume these are regulars and this is a regular occurrence.
We will never be back. Dog owners – do better. If your dog is aggressive then book a sniff spot so they can go run around. Do not bring them to dog parks where you know other dogs will be.
It’s huge, 50 acres. Lots of trails a nice brook for dogs to play in good people and dogs. I wish people didn’t bring little kids there that don’t know how to act around dogs though. They shouldn’t be playing in the water where the dogs are either. Go to a playground, a splash pad or hiking trail with your kids.
Nice place with activities for the dogs to play on. Nice trails and a play area. We are trying to get our puppy to socialize. It was a little overwhelming. Just be aware and watch your dogs stress level. The other dogs were very friendly and sweet.
A wonderful hidden gem of a dog park. Well maintained with nice trails, water bowls, trash containers, and poop bag dispensers as well as a pup playground. The boys and I had a wonderful time meeting other dogs on the trails, and respectful dog owners must be cleaning up after their pets because we never saw dog poop in the park. Friendly off leash rules and plenty of space for the pups to run around. Highly recommend for a lovely stroll in the park.
We had a great time. My kids and my dogs enjoyed the trails and the little stream that runs through it. The park was clean and well maintained. People and dogs were all very friendly and polite. I’m amazed this park is located right behind walmart. It is a hidden jewel.
