Really nice park rangers. Our daughter enjoyed the taxidermied animals and feeling some fur. Kayaks were great. Had a tandem kayak for the family. NULL per hour I believe. Bikes also for rent for ?/hr. Kayaking in the swamp was fine, but didn’t see too much

WARNING: TICKS ARE BAD! We went with our two dogs, had tick repellent, and stayed on the main trail (away from the dense brush) and we came home with about 40 ticks. I seriously wish I was over exaggerating but there were so many and we counted about 40. The dogs each had about 20 all over their feet, toe pads, legs, and underside. I had two, but pulled a bunch off on the way home that I could feel crawling on me. There’s a sign about ticks, but I did not expect it to be this bad. Even days later, I am still pulling ticks off the dogs after multiple thorough tick checks.

We will be boycotting this place. The risk of disease and inconvenience is too great. Maybe we will try again when it’s cold, but not when it is warm outside.

It truly is a shame. I really enjoyed the trail. It was quiet, beautiful, well maintained, and we saw multiple pretty green snakes. It’s also really nice that they prioritize safety by taking your information before entering the trail. I truly enjoyed this trail but the ticks are too much! There needs to be some kind of tick control plan set in place because it is like an infestation of ticks in that area. No mosquitoes though, so whatever they are doing for mosquitoes seems to be working.

Great Dismal Swamp, please do something about the ticks. I understand there are ticks when you go in the woods, but this is a ridiculous amount. I am a frequent hiker and I have never had to navigate a situation like this. Please do something so I can come back with my dogs. Maybe releasing a bunch of possums in the area would be beneficialNULL I know they can eat 1000 ticks per day!

We came here for some Kayaking and it was such a great time. They have the best kayaking launch/docking system. It’s super easy to get out on the water and back in. Definitely will be back!
