This section of the Delaware and Raritan Canal Trail follows the Raritan River where it turns from a northeastward flow to the southeast. It is geographically the northernmost section of the trail in Somerset County and easy walking distance from Bound Brook Train Station across the Queens Bridge. It’s also in very close proximity to the historical site of the Battle of Bound Brook, and the Abraham Staats House Historical Site.
The trail itself traverses more than 70 miles and spans 4 counties from near Washington’s Crossing on the Delaware River down to Trenton, then up to this point bordering Bound Brook and South Bound Brook, before turning southeast to its culmination around New Brunswick.
All along the way, there are numerous little known sites that provide a great perspective of the canal and its’ history. For the most part, the walking paths are easy, but there are a few rough patches here and there. Bring your hiking shoes and a camera and enjoy the walk
