Rum Village Dog Park is a popular dog-friendly destination nestled within the scenic Rum Village Park in South Bend, Indiana. This spacious dog park features fully fenced areas dedicated to both small and large dogs, as well as a community area where dogs of all sizes can safely socialize. The park’s mature trees provide natural shade, while benches and dog houses offer spots to rest. Owners enjoy a peaceful, family-friendly vibe that’s ideal for both socializing and quiet time with their pets.
One of the unique aspects of Rum Village Dog Park is its direct connection to pet-friendly hiking and walking trails throughout Rum Village Park. The area is wheelchair accessible, with easy parking and well-maintained entrances. Amenities like dog waste bag dispensers (though sometimes in short supply), trash bins, picnic tables, barbecue grills, playgrounds, and public restrooms add to the convenience. Visitors appreciate the low crowds on most days, though weekends and nice weather may draw more people. Be aware that ticks can be present, and some reviews mention areas needing more regular maintenance, so it’s wise to check conditions before visiting.
Nice and safe place to walk your dogs ticks are bad there though
Very nice dog park. Could use some doggie obstacles. Plenty of doggie bags in the dispensers. It is rather nice and quiet on Sunday morning.
Dog parks need come TLC. The community dog park had glass and it’s full of leaves, branches, and broken concrete. There are never any dog waste bags in any of the 3 dog parks.
I’ve brought my dog here a few times now, its never over crowded and the dogs that come are always very friendly. I prefer this to the Mishawaka dog park, since that one is very popular and we are still working on proper socializing. It’s nice because you can always walk your dog on the trail too.
Lovely fenced in area with mature trees, dog houses, and benches! Of course there are bags too – for picking up. The dog park is split up between small dogs, large dogs, and a community area for any dogs.
I only went when it was snowing, but in my experience it was not overcrowded at all. It is likely worse on a weekend with nice weather.
The pens look a little small, but I was still able to throw my chuck it ball as far as I could without coming close to throwing it out of the large dog area. I did not use the wand – that may change things.
There seems to be a bit more of a family vibe here than in the dog park closer to downtown SB, and it certainly feels more like being in a park
