Florida Trail Bear Pond Trailhead offers a peaceful and scenic outdoor experience for dog owners looking for pet-friendly trails and dog-friendly hiking in Sorrento, Florida. The park features extensive shaded walking and biking trails that loop around a picturesque pond and through wooded areas, making it perfect for early morning strolls with your pup. There are plenty of parking spaces, rest areas with benches, picnic tables, and a pavilion, along with restrooms and water access points for both people and pets.
One of the highlights for dog owners is the separated, fenced-in dog park area for both small and large dogs, with double-gated entrances for safety. The park is generally clean and well-maintained, and features amenities like a water dispenser for dogs, poop bag stations, and shaded seating areas, ensuring a comfortable visit for both you and your furry companion. Nearby playgrounds, tennis courts, and nature trails mean families can enjoy a full day out. The tranquil, less-crowded atmosphere makes this spot a hidden gem for locals and visitors alike.
Great trails! My reason for 3 stars is based on the campsite. We stayed at shelter 8. It’s a cool spot butttttt the campsite is literally ON the trail! At 7 AM a group of at least 20 guys came running through and they jogged a circle around the shelter and took a break with two speakers playing music loudly literally in our camp while my partner was sleeping. I’ve never been anyplace that the campsite is literally on the trail. The orange markers are the trail.
Great place to walk in the early morning. Not crowded and most of trails is shaded
Very nice trail. Using an app like All Trails will help, as the color code of the trail you’re following changes. There are many visible signs of storm damage from the 2024 hurricanes, but the trail is fully passable.
These photos are from late August. This was a nice spot for a little hike around the lake. We came right after some rain showers. Quiet and peaceful. There was a NULL charge per car for admission but we had difficulty figuring out how to pay since there was no drop box for cash.
The first half of the trail through the woods is really nice. Then you’ll come to the camp shelter where you’ll have the option to turn a left. This will take you to the sandy road way/ horse trail which is kind of boring to walk down but it takes you back to the parking lot. On the map, this is starting at the orange trail that turns into the yellow dotted trail. The shelter is at the top right where the yellow dotted trail intersects with the white trail. You can also go right and follow the white trail which I am guessing is more scenic than the way I took and loops you back to the orange path where you started.
The intersecting paths are not as well marked as other parks.
There is a short and pretty trail that loops around the pond.
Overall, both the horse road and pond trail together took about 1.5 hours.
