Somerville Junction Park is a hidden gem for locals seeking a tranquil dog park in Somerville, Massachusetts. Nestled next to the railroad and an active bike path, this community park boasts a lush green space transformed from a former brownfield site. It’s a favorite spot for families, dog owners, and anyone who loves taking in the sights of commuter trains passing while relaxing in a quieter, less crowded area of the city.
While dogs must remain leashed as the park is not fully enclosed, the area provides ample room for walking and play, plus plenty of benches for pet owners to relax. The park offers wheelchair-accessible entrances and is kid-friendly, making it a versatile outdoor destination for those with children or limited mobility. Somerville Junction Park stands out for its thoughtful reclamation as green space and ease of access, adding needed recreational value to the neighborhood.
We call this the “secret park” because it’s pretty rarely full! Great for families and dogs. Dogs must be on a leash (it’s not fenced in). It is next to the commuter rail and construction, so it can be noisy at times, but it’s nice to be outside! It’s basically just a field with some benches, but in the pandemic, it feels like a luxury!
Nice little park, but people please pick up after your dogs!
Great little park that I take my pup to daily. It’s a brownfield reclamation site, so good on Somerville for creating green space when it’s at a premium in this little gem of a city.
Fenced park without any facility. Plenty of benches and kids can roam around except at the edge of the park there is an active bike path.
It is situated at the former location of Somerville Junction and you can see commuter rail passby.
Quiet little nook next to the railroad. Good place to watch dogs or people jogging by.
