Just a short drive away, Solomons Island offers a picturesque escape nestled at the scenic confluence where the Patuxent River meets the Chesapeake Bay. This historic maritime village has evolved from a quiet waterman’s community into a beloved local and tourist destination, renowned for its tranquil atmosphere and stunning waterfront vistas. The town’s deep, protected harbor makes it one of the premier boating centers on the East Coast, and its marinas are constantly bustling with sailboats, fishing charters, and pleasure craft.
The heart of Solomons is its iconic riverwalk, a wooden boardwalk that stretches along the harbor’s edge. It provides the perfect path for a leisurely stroll, offering access to an array of charming boutiques, art galleries, and inviting restaurants that specialize in fresh, local seafood, often served with unbeatable views of the water. This central strip is where the relaxed, coastal energy of the town is most palpable, especially during a warm evening as the sun sets over the harbor.
A cornerstone of the community is the world-class Calvert Marine Museum, a must-visit attraction for any visitor. The museum masterfully covers the region’s rich history through three main themes: paleontology, showcasing the immense fossil discoveries from the nearby Calvert Cliffs; estuarine biology, which includes a vibrant aquarium featuring playful river otters; and maritime history, highlighted by the beautifully preserved, relocated Drum Point Lighthouse and the opportunity to cruise the river on the historic bugeye, the Wm. B. Tennison. Altogether, Solomons provides a perfect blend of natural beauty, living history, and relaxed coastal charm, making it an ideal destination for a day trip or a quiet weekend getaway.

This is located on the boardwalk that runs down Solomons Island. It’s a small-ish open air gazebo with views of the Patuxent River. There is a drinking fountain available right next to the gazebo. On the non-boardwalk side the gazebo is surrounded by a parking lot with kind of detracts from the experience, but it’s a good spot to catch a little shade on a hot day.

Nice and quaint gazebo and boardwalk area! There’s not a ton of things to do around here, but there’s a good handful of restaurants and a few shops, and you can a nice stroll along the boardwalk. We stayed in this area for a few days and had a nice time exploring around.

Really nice Scenery. There was a Wine Festival happening and Lots of Families out taking pictures and exercising and Plenty of restaurants to eat at . Very relaxing

Nice boardwalk and dogfriendly. Has restaurants and ice cream shops. It also has a memorial for those who fished and built boats there.
