Blydenburgh Boat Launch and Parking — Dog-Friendly Outdoor Space in Smithtown, New York

Blydenburgh Boat Launch and Parking offers dog owners in Smithtown, New York, a scenic location to enjoy pet-friendly hiking and lakeside experiences. While it’s known for its picturesque trails, which are perfect for on-leash dog walks, residents and visitors should be aware that the main pond (Stump Pond) has been drained due to a dam failure, and repairs may take considerable time. Despite these changes, the park is still appreciated for its natural beauty, opportunities to view wildlife, and relaxing walks with your dog.

The trails through the park are dog-friendly, making it a lovely spot to explore nature with your pet. Visitors highlight the area for kayaking, fishing, and nature-watching. However, certain amenities like off-leash areas or specific dog park features are not noted, so be prepared for an on-leash experience. Remember to exercise caution along trails, as there may be roots and uneven surfaces, especially when accessing any launch points.

Roots can make it easy to trip when carrying a kayak to the launch point. Be careful. The lake itself is beautiful. Tons of fish, waterfowl and turtles.

Nice park for kayaking and hiking. Went there in March of 2022 and it was great!

Since the dam at its north end failed, Stump Pond has fully drained exposing the tree stumps for the first time in over 200 years.
Repairs to the dam will take months or longer then another year+ for rainfall to refill the pond.

Love taking my dogs walking through this park and the trails im just very confused as to why we aren’t getting new water into the area. Can it be redammed ? Can it be fortified? Can it be refilled ? Maybe I’m way off i don’t known much about this stuff but there seems to be running water through a few spots. I used to fish and kayak here. Let’s Get It fixed. Still a nice place just really really want the water back.
