Great trail, I recommend water shoes or hiking sandals. Don’t really need towels until you get back to the car, so carry less. The kids don’t want to leave so bring some snacks and water and sunscreen lol. I had a real nice time, can’t wait to go back. The trail is nice and there are steps to get down. Be careful on the roots, my son fell but I held his hand after that and he didn’t fall again. Upstream can only be reached by water so if you want to go up in the faster moving water like we did, you’ll want to walk carefully upstream. The trail gets really high and it’s basically a cliff down to the water.
This is the perfect autumn hike for an afternoon. The trail is stable and clearly marked. Plenty of wildlife: snakes, bald eagle, toads, fish, birds, grasshoppers and more. Its an easy hike that even children could enjoy. Thanks for conserving this Western Pennsylvania Conservancy! I can’t wait to return sometime soon. I loved watching the changing colors on the leaves. 10 out of 10.
This area was owned by a distant relative named Emma Miller Guffey. My name is Bryan Guffey. She used the area as a maple syrup business. When she passed ,she willed the land to the university for studies, and to preserve it. Although you used to be able to fish anywhere and camp anywhere, you can no longer do this because ther are plants and animals that live there that you cannot find anywhere else in the world. It’s beautiful area with rare wild flowers and a great place to take your family and hike and swim and play in the water.
