The staff and volunteers at this shelter are outstanding! They all love the animals they are taking care of. Some of which have been there for a year or more to find the right adopter. They assist with helping folks get spay and neuter for cats and they will do their damndest to make exceptions happen if absolutely necessary(not garunteed) .. but the staff loves the animals. They provide their foster families with everything they need down to cat/dog toys. While there i saw someone whos elderly pet passed and they wanted to donate their remaining food, toys, equipment. Your beloved pet passed? Why not pass on their things to a good cause? Blankets are a plus! They are wonderful people and highly recommend them for your next adoption or foster pet (beware the foster fails lol… aka adopted)

Please think about adopting an animal, some of the shy ones just need a little love and patience. My husband and I have adopted 2 beautiful black cats that some people may have overlooked because they are shy and were not very social, but they have opened up and are great cat’s. They enjoy playing with their toys, treats and being played with by their humans. They are loved very much and they are still a little bit shy but doing awesome. PS they are also very good and use their litter boxes.🥰🥰🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛ This shelter is a good place to adopt from, the staff is great and the facility is well maintained. I would highly recommend anyone to adopt from here.
So glad I was able to adopt 2 beauti⁸ful cat’s from here, kudos to the staff.

PLEASE ADOPT, THESE ANIMALS JUST WANT YOU TO LOVE AND BE KIND TO THEM 💕

They also need donations whether it be monetary, food or items that maybe needed ordered from chewey. Please help anyway you can it is greatly appreciated.

Update 2 months after they have been adopted they are truly the sweetest kitties. I am able to pet them both and they enjoy playing so much, I am able to also get kisses from my new little girl Trouble. Merlin my baby boy also has become very friendly and absolutely loves to be played with. I have spoiled them just a little bit and wouldn’t have it any other way. My husband and myself just love them so much and my two elderly girls are getting along great with them so much I often can hear them at night playing together. They have brought out some of the kitten in the my Tara who is almost 19 and my Nala aka Peep who will be 16 shortly also. They are all strictly indoor babies so they will never be exposed to any predators. Love 😍 them so much🐺🐈🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛
I also can’t stress enough how important it is to adopt from you local shelter, these animals just want to be loved 🥰

Three month after adopting Merlin fka Bubbles and Trouble fka Pudding they are awesome, they are just the sweetest kitties. Merlin loves mom and sleeps on her at night, he feels so secure he let’s me kiss and pet his belly. Trouble fka Pudding is the sweetest girl, still a wee bit shy but loves pats on her head and treats, also loves kisses. They are both great cat’s and are not aggressive now, they just needed a little love and patience would not trade them for the world.
It just goes to show you that an animal may be aggressive or shy for a reason. They maybe scared or just feel they are not loved because they have been brought back to a shelter for whatever reason.
Please I recommend adopting an animal like this, they just want to be loved by someone. Just remember that no one really wants to be alone, not even an animal. The world is scary enough.
In my experiences that I have had with feral cat colonies, which are usually the most unadoptal pets in a shelter. Given the opportunity they can be the best pets ever. All of my cats in the past 30 years (exept what I have adopted approximately 30 or so?) have been
feral that no one would want because of aggretion or other behavioral issues, given the opportunity they can be the best and sweetest pets of all.
I can’t stress how much that adoption has SAVED many loving animals and even people from being lonely.

PLEASE ADOPT🐺 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛
And as always be kind to our fury friends no matter what, In this day and age
WE ALL NEED A LITTLE LOVE😇💕💕

5 months later best kitties ever. They have adjusted to their new home well, they love playing and racing around. I call them my little zoomies! They are social and allow company to pet and play with them. Sweetest babies you could ask for. They were not very social and didn’t want be around anyone at first but now they love the attention of people.
They are loved very much by everyone.
Just a reminder please adopt even if they may not seem friendly at first they just need love, patience and time. The reward of seeing how much your love has done in the long run will pay off.
Just a reminder the shelter always can use donations of whatever you can give please, every little bit helps 😊

Somerset Humane Society, also known as Somerset Animal Shelter, truly exemplifies the compassion and dedication of the locals in the Skowhegan, Maine, area. The staff here are not just employees; they’re guardians of the stray and surrendered animals in their care, ensuring each one’s journey to a forever home is filled with care and consideration. They are a no-kill shelter. There is a commitment to creating a safe, organized space where animals can flourish while awaiting their new families. This is one reason that they require a scheduled meet-and-greet for the dogs. If you think about it, it’s best that the dogs aren’t subjected to random people walking through and disrupting them in their kennels regularly, especially those dogs who may be timid and feeling vulnerable.

One remarkable aspect of Somerset Humane Society is its thoughtful approach to animal welfare. With multiple cat rooms designed to accommodate stray felines and provide necessary medical care, and feral cat shelters outside, the shelter goes beyond mere housing. They don’t always have puppies or kittens, but they try to be completely forthcoming with the quirks and needs of the animals, when people inquire. Their foster-to-adopt program reflects their understanding of the emotional needs of animals, offering them a smoother transition into loving homes. What’s truly heartening is that Somerset operates on donations, yet their impact is profound. From contributing your time to sharing their social media posts, every gesture counts in supporting them in their cause. As a volunteer myself, I’ve witnessed firsthand the difference each donation, whether in supplies or attention, makes in the lives of these animals.

We just adopted a six month old black and white kitten. She seems too like her new home and is very happy and playful despite just being spayed yesterday. She came with all her first round of shots, as well as a flea treatment. My seven year old daughter loves her and I’m sure they will be the best of friends! The shelter staff was very helpful, and made picking her up a breeze. Thank you Skowhegan Animal Shelter for getting my daughter her first pet! I would recommend anyone to stop in and look around! They are open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
