🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

Located just outside the heart of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, Sewickley Valley War Memorial Park offers a family- and pet-friendly retreat with ample green space and scenic surroundings. While not a dedicated off-leash dog park, dog owners will enjoy exploring the pet-friendly trails, open fields, and picturesque streams that make this park unique in the area. The park is popular for its relaxing atmosphere, several playgrounds for children, ball fields, and plenty of shade, making it a favorite spot for both locals and visitors.
Easy access to dog-friendly hiking trails as well as spacious picnic pavilions means you and your pup can spend a relaxing day outdoors in Sewickley. The park provides abundant parking and beautiful creek views, though some areas may be challenging for those seeking wheelchair accessibility. Although restrooms are present, they are mainly portable toilets and may have limited access. This park is ideal for families looking to combine a day out for both children and their furry companions in a natural, spacious setting.
Large park with large plastic playground equipment. Despite this, no public restrooms. 6 porta-potties with 4 of 6 locked up for restricted use, leaving only 2 for general park users. The playground equipment is okay but run down with large holes in the rubber turf.
A small stream divides the park from the parking area, but with large chains across the bridge preventing vehicle traffic this results in poor access for pedestrians as well. Definitely not wheelchair accessible and even hard to navigate for others.
7pm on a hot summer Saturday and the park was practically empty save for a few older teens.
Only one of the ten swings was sized for toddlers/babies.
The picnic pavilions seemed to be in pretty good shape, but again, lack of quality restrooms mixed with warm weather and I wouldn’t want my friends and relatives to have to deal with the lack of clean toilets or running water.
Considering this is less than a mile from the upscale downtown Sewickley and its upscale neighborhoods.. all in all a surprising disappointment. I would be frustrated if lived nearby.

Great park for all ages!! Two different playgrounds, one for older kids and one for younger and both are HUGE. Great hikes surrounding and 2 decently sized pavilions and a bathroom which is a major plus. A cute creek and a few nice little bridges. Tons of parking!

A great park for kids. The rubber ground is great for clumsy toddlers. Very clean. My twin boys love it!

Okay, so the park itself, playground area…very nice. My son and I decided to walk a trail, but since there was no indication of where the trail went or its condition, we ended up trying to come down a dry gravelly steep slope . Both of us partially using our hands and sliding on our butts to get down without tumbling. I think they need more signage in there! Otherwise, nice grounds, adequate parking. Nice little ball field for kids too.
