Seal Rock State Recreation Site, located along the scenic Oregon Coast in Seal Rock, Oregon, offers visitors breathtaking views, natural tide pools, and unique wildlife watching, including harbor seals. With accessible viewpoints via ramps and a large parking lot, this pet-friendly destination is perfect for dog owners seeking a relaxing day by the coast with their leashed companions. While there are no dedicated off-leash or fenced areas for dogs, the park provides beautifully maintained trails and grassy spots to walk your dog while soaking up the serenity of the coast.
Although the recreation site is not an official dog park with a gated dog run, it’s a dog-friendly space where you can enjoy a stroll with your pet, especially around low tide to access the beach. The site is well-equipped with basic facilities such as restrooms and ample parking, and the natural environment is kept in near-pristine condition with plenty of large trees for shade. Always keep an eye on the tide schedule, as waters can rise quickly, and remember to bring supplies like water and waste bags for your pup!
Beautiful area kept almost completely in its natural state. It’s a steep walk down to the beach and back up but it’s doable for most people.
***If you go down onto the beach, you MUST pay attention to the time of the tides. Go down on low tide as high tide brings the ocean water and waves all the way up to the sea cliff walls!***
10/10 highly recommend! This is such a beautiful and surreal place. We loved and enjoyed every second at this park.
Amazing beautiful beach. We were here at highly tide, so no tide pools, but the waves crashing on the rock were spectacular!
I didn’t make it down to the beach but the viewpoints alone were breathtaking and are accessible by ramps. I found the interpretive signs very engaging. The parking lot had ample space. The restroom was large but quite dirty and I encountered many spiders. I don’t mind spiders though.
The tide pools were absolutely amazing and we counted 6 harbor seals that we enjoyed watching for a bit. It was a favorite and worthwhile stop along the Oregon coast.
The tide came in rapidly, so be aware! We noticed the change just in time to start heading back to shore without getting too wet, but it caught others off guard too, so do be aware.
Restrooms are available.
