Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center is a scenic destination along the North Shore that offers beautiful pet-friendly trails and breathtaking views of Lake Superior. Located in Schroeder, MN, this hidden gem is perfect for dog owners seeking memorable adventures with their pets on natural, well-maintained trails through wooded areas and down to the iconic pebble beach. Note that the paths can be uneven in places due to tree roots, so be prepared for a moderate hike, especially if you follow the stream out to the water.
Visitors love the combination of serene beaches, wonderful natural scenery, and the welcoming nature center, which offers helpful info and pays homage to the area’s rich natural history. There is a $5 parking fee, payable onsite or at the visitor center if cell service is limited. The park is regularly maintained and provides plenty of opportunities for on-leash hiking and lakeside activities, making it a great spot for dog-friendly exploration.
Lots of cool things to see, several pebble beaches as well as a bunch of walking trails.
Absolutely beautiful beach and a gorgeous stream you can follow down to it. Well maintained, but mostly natural trails that circle the preserve and lead to the beach.
Very nice. Note they charge NULL for parking. Sheltered beach, and short walk.
Beautiful spot to explore. Great little nature center. The main trail was good for all ages. The walk to the point is a little trickier but so beautiful!! Heads up that they charge NULL for parking, but it’s worth it. You can pay at the visitor center if your cell service is bad for the online parking.
One of the best kept secrets on the North Shore of Duluth. I took my dog Rusty here in 2016 to take one last swim in the lake before he crossed the Rainbow Bridge. It has so many memories for me. I love the visitor center and the path down to the lake through the woods. It is a medium hike with lots of tree roots to navigate so be aware.
The view of the lake is breathtaking. However, so many have found this place that they had to close off parts of the access to the lake. Please stay on designated trails only!!!!
