Welch Dog Park is a large, community-focused dog park conveniently located in San Jose, CA 95122. Known for its roomy layout and friendly visitors, this off-leash park is ideal for letting your dog enjoy open, grassy areas and socialize with other well-behaved pets. The park features designated fenced areas for both small and large dogs, ensuring safety and comfortable playtimes for all sizes. With real grass in some sections and wood chip surfaces in others, it provides a versatile environment for running, playing fetch, or simply relaxing.
Welch Dog Park earns praise for its cleanliness, water fountains, ample space, and generally dog-friendly atmosphere supported by responsible owners. There are water spigots, shaded and sunny spots, benches for owners, and toys often available. While some visitors note areas for improvement—such as a lack of consistent shade, muddy ground at times, and limited parking—many appreciate the sense of community and the park’s efforts to provide a safe, enjoyable location for dogs and their families. Be aware of the $6 parking fee (free neighborhood street parking may be available) and that the park is closed Wednesdays for maintenance. Kids can also enjoy a playground adjacent to the dog park.
This park needs improved. Lots of drifters and homeless type folks running in and out that park

I had high hopes but this place flops.
Unmaintained and weeds growing everywhere. Foxtails especially, which are known to give dogs health complications.
Has good potential but San Jose needs to upkeep this place to make it dog friendly.

Very big park but no grass and wood chips are a little hard for small dogs. Grass is better option for dogs. Sunday morning around 10 am, it was just my dog not sure why this big place doesn’t get busy!

This is one of the newer dog parks in San Jose, and I appreciate that they made the effort. It’s clean, and when I’ve been there the people and dogs have been nice. It is however tiny. Really tiny. Also a sidewalk is right outside one of the long sides of the dog park, so there are people and bicycles and walking dogs for the dogs inside the park to react to only a foot or two away. The last few times we’ve gone, there have not been any other people or dogs inside the park for us to play with. There must be a particular time of day when people turn up, but it’s not the times we guess.
