If you’re searching for a dog park in San Jose, California, Montgomery Hill Park stands out as a scenic, pet-friendly destination. This spacious neighborhood park offers beautiful hiking trails, open grassy areas, and remarkable views of the city and surrounding hills. Its broad, accessible trails are ideal for leisurely dog walks, active dog-friendly hiking, or family outings, making it a favorite among locals who enjoy the outdoors with their pets.
Montgomery Hill Park is known for its panoramic vistas, wide walking paths that accommodate both pedestrians and bikers, and a relaxed atmosphere for families, dog owners, and outdoor enthusiasts. While there isn’t a dedicated fenced dog run, visitors frequently walk their dogs along the roomy trails and open fields. Amenities include picnic areas, playgrounds for kids, tennis courts, on-site restrooms, and plenty of parking—plus some shaded benches offering a break from the sun. It’s an excellent spot to watch sunsets, fly kites, and experience the beauty of San Jose with your canine companion!
Great local place for leisurely hiking. It’s sort of like a figure 8 trail on the backside of Evergreen Community College. But don’t be fooled… there’s a monster hill to climb if you want something a little tougher. It’s about 0.125 miles up from the tree at the bottom to the first lookout point at the top. In other words, 1 miles after 4 up and downs. Probably 0.75 miles if you walk the loops. It can be busy on Saturdays but Sunday mornings are chill.
Absolutely stunning views. Easy trail and a lovely place to fly kites. We had great time.
This easily wins the award for the best view for the least effort. A mere ten minute walk from your car provides a view of the entire San Jose metropolitan area plus the Santa Cruz Mountains. The trails are much wider than most places and this allows bikers and pedestrians to be friends. There is history here too, but discover this when you are there by reading the placards.
This trail is a joy to hike and offers stunning views that make you forget you’re still in the city. I’ve enjoyed wild mustard blooms, watched people fly kites, even spotted monks taking in the scenery. It’s a popular spot for photo sessions, and for good reason – the sunsets are breathtaking. Whether you’re into wildlife, photography, or simply seeking peace and quiet, this trail has something for everyone.
Incredible location for both biking and hiking. As a regular biker, I’ve enjoyed relentlessly pushing up the steep (Warning: 20% grade at times) climbs while taking in the history (lots of info about John Montgomery) and outstanding views this place has to offer. Slopes and runs at the park are phenomenal, and really model a roller coaster ride, allowing epic speeds.
