Guadalupe Dog Park in San Jose, CA

Guadalupe Dog Park offers one of the largest dog-friendly open spaces in San Jose, California, conveniently located near downtown and adjacent to the Los Gatos Creek Trail. This pet-friendly park features two separate fenced areas dedicated for small and large dogs, providing ample room for pups to run off-leash, socialize, and play on a surface covered with wood and pine shavings. Although the park boasts significant space and a community of regular dog owners, it has faced criticism for overgrown weeds (especially foxtails), maintenance issues, and proximity to homeless encampments.

Owners can find street parking around the park and enjoy benches for seating, water stations for their dogs, and nearby sports fields, playgrounds, and family-friendly spaces. However, shade is limited due to young, newly planted trees, and visitors are encouraged to bring their own dog waste bags as dispensers are often empty. With its central location and large fenced areas, Guadalupe Dog Park is a popular destination for San Jose dog lovers seeking a convenient and spacious environment for their pets.

pros:One of the biggest dog park square footages.
Good fencing,
Good location,
Cons: Not safe for the dog Overgrown weed,
uneven ground soil,
No shade,
Just a piece of huge open space, A pseudo-Facade so public will think they really care. But in REALITY. IT’S TO KEEP THE HOMELESS/RV AWAY.!!!!!!!Does that make more sense. Why would you create a dog park and will not completely 100% use as dog park. It’s unfinish, no Maintenace. very unsafe I saw couple of dogs running freely outside the dog park. In the street. and attacking my dog while were still inside my car.. I feel sorry for the owner of the dog that they have to spent resources and alter their activity of daily living , emotional toll because of poor Maintenace over grown foxtail….You should sue the responsible local agency for this.
Yes I gave A 5 star rating so people will read it and it’s actually zero Star.

June 2025 update. The city has not allocated resources to regularly mowing and weeding this park so it has become completely overrun with foxtails. That weed is EXTREMELY dangerous to dogs. Our dog got one embedded in her foot from running in this park and it cost us NULL and multiple vet visits to have her sedated and have it cut out. I’ve uploaded photos of the damage. She has to wear a cone for 6 weeks. I am so sad that we can never go to this park again because it is now safe for dogs unless the city removes the foxtails in and around the park.

(July 2024) Lots of space to run, great use of space near the airport. Lots of homeless camps and RVs. Park is mostly weeds with some pointy stickers that hurt paws. Several good shade trees. Understandable that there will be lots of dog poop as it’s a huge park with bushes, but there were 9+ piles of poop right by the entrance. I brought a poop scoop for the park but someone stole it within days.

Totally unsafe. Really unfortunate as this is a huge dog park, at a convenient location close to downtown, but absolutely over-run with homeless. It’s become a free RV park/tent encampment on city streets. Sad.

Amazing plot of land that the city’s tax payers, pay to enjoy with their dogs.

However, the trailer trash that lives on the adjacent streets don’t have any respect for the amenities.

One of the water spickets is damaged and the drain is is clogged, while the other is frequently utilized as a sink for unintended purposes. Such as cleaning Pots/Pans, Clothes, Equipment, Auto parts and bathing.

At my trip to the park today, I found shards of glass bottles and garbage cans filled with trash. Seemingly left by the inhabitants on the parks adjacent streets.

It’s unfathomable that someone can buy a property in the area and pay 10-30k
in property taxes per year to see other people camping in their backyard.

This post doesn’t deserve the review for the baseball fields, nor the horse shoes, nor the basketball courts… However for as expensive as a city is, I would never want to recreation here with how disgusting and criminal this area looks.

MAHAN, NEWMAN/NEWSOME, would you allow your teenagers to ride their bikes to experience what this PARK has to offer? During my childhood that’s what my parents encouraged me to do, but not if they saw this one.

This park has so much potential. Yes it’s next to homeless camp but city cleaned up street so in front of park there’s no problem parking and no one will bother you. I feel like not many people know this dog park so my dog has the whole park 4-5 acres all to himself lol.would be nice if more dogs coming to this new dog park.
