This trail stretches quite a long way from San Francisco to Morgan Hill, about 27 miles. I enjoy biking it in south San Jose from around Hellyer to Bernal or Metcalf Road. It’s quiet and not overly busy most of the time. There is enough space for bikers in both directions. It can get a little hairy because a lot of walkers use it too. So you can’t speed bike on it for super long stretches, but 10-15 mph is ok. And the section close to Hellyer park is bumpy I think because of tree roots. But still the best place in south East San Jose to bike cuz at least no danger of cars. And in Hellyer park there’s an outdoor velodrome, believe it or not.

Great trail for walking (leashed dogs allowed), running, biking and horseback riding. Great facilities at trail heads with restrooms and picnic areas. The open space offers beautiful tree groves, grassy fields, wild flowers, creek and wildlife abound. This is great outdoor space offering close and easy access for local residents!

I really like this trail for cycling, though it is somewhat piecemeal in its layout and you are likely to get your butt wet. The headwinds can be frustrating. There are one or two alternate routes that can make the trip more interesting when repeated numerous times. It is rarely very busy.
