If you’re searching for a spacious and pet-friendly park in San Jose, CA, Orchard Park is a wonderful community spot with plenty of open space, amenities, and activities. The park is known for its large green areas, making it ideal for pet owners looking for a relaxing place to walk or exercise their dogs. There are well-maintained sidewalks shaded by trees, benches, picnic tables, and a peaceful atmosphere even in busy hours. With easy access to the Coyote Creek Trail and amenities like updated playgrounds, basketball courts, and even table tennis, Orchard Park offers much more than just a place to walk your dog.
While there is no fully fenced dedicated dog area, dogs are allowed and often seen exploring the expansive lawns on leash. Dog owners will appreciate the availability of parking around the park, clean restrooms, and a variety of shaded and sunny spots to relax. The park is connected to walking trails, making it popular for early morning and evening strolls with your pup. Visitors also note a sense of safety and friendly community, although attentiveness is advised as the park borders some encampments and open urban areas.

Plus
+ nice, new equipment
+ very nice landscaping (mostly xeriscaped too so not wasting a bunch of water)
Minus
– playground equipment is pretty small
– very little shade, and none for the playground. We were lucky though since it was an overcast day.
Neutral
* Nobody there. This was Saturday around noon and overcast, so the sun shouldn’t be an issue. Maybe you like the park all to yourself, but I prefer a little bustle and some other kids around for mine to play with.
* Right next to a homeless encampment. Nobody crazy or yelling or anything like that; just folks minding their own business. It doesn’t bother me, but again, you may have different preferences.
