Eureka Valley Dog Play Area in San Francisco, California

The Eureka Valley Dog Play Area is a popular community hub for dogs and their owners, located in the heart of the Castro district at 125 Collingwood St, San Francisco, CA. This fully fenced dog park provides a safe and friendly environment for pups to run and play off-leash, thanks to its decomposed granite (DG) ground which stays well-drained and rarely gets muddy, even after rain. The park provides plenty of space for dogs of all sizes to exercise and socialize with other friendly pups.

What sets this San Francisco dog park apart is the strong community spirit among regular visitors—owners are attentive and the dogs are well supervised. Amenities include shaded double canopy shelters, seating areas for owners, water and dog toys, and convenient pooper scoopers. The park is wheelchair accessible, making it a welcoming spot for everyone. While not as large as some nearby parks, its quick-drying surface and never overcrowded atmosphere make it a top choice for urban pet owners seeking a relaxed, dog-friendly play area in San Francisco.

This is a great park to bring your dog in the Castro. Always a good group of owners there and a friendly vibe. The park is mostly dirt and gravel though so keep that in mind. It’s not nearly as big as Upper Douglass, but plenty large for a good run. There is a community center next door that should have public toilets but I haven’t confirmed this.

There is always a a good group of dogs playing. The park is well kept, the owners are attentive and plenty of sitting and shade for either you or your pup!

The dogs are nice. People keep a decent eye on their dogs. Some people dont clean up after their dogs.

Pros: never over-crowded, no dog walkers with packs, it’s big, quick-drying sand/dirt. There are pooper scoopers provided. Dogs are usually well supervised.

Cons: people here can be a little weird sometimes and nobody seems to understand that when your dog poops, you pick it up. Dog poop spreads disease, people. You don’t even need to use your own bags (see above re: pooper scoopers).

I’ve been coming here for nearly 20 years. It is fully fenced. The surface is DG (decomposed granite), which looks like sand from a distance but is more compacted and less dusty. It allows for drainage of rain without being muddy. There is a great community of regular dogs and their people-everything from tiny 5 lb dogs to 125 lb ones, and everyone gets along just fine. There is a double canopy to offer shelter from sun and rain, water & balls for the pups, and chairs for the people. Come on by and say hello!
