🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Located in the heart of San Francisco, Avalon Dogpatch Dog Park offers a convenient spot for local pet owners seeking a place for their dogs to play off-leash. The park features artificial turf with sandy and muddy patches, providing space for energetic off-leash activities. Though the park receives mixed reviews regarding cleanliness and maintenance, it remains a valuable amenity for dogs in the surrounding condos, especially for those needing a safe, enclosed space in the city.
Accessibility is a plus here: Avalon Dogpatch is easily reached via the Judah N Muni line, making it practical for both locals and visitors. The park is known for its friendly canine and human community, where doggie play dates are common, and socialization is encouraged. However, some issues with upkeep, such as damaged turf and lingering odors, have been noted, and pet owners are encouraged to check current conditions before visiting. Shade is available throughout much of the day, and the park gets busiest during evenings and sunny weekends.
This park is just terrible. Totally neglected by Avalon. Vandalism, graffiti, garbage, the astroturf is ruined. Avalon is supposed to be managing this place but just like the apartment complex, they are running it straight into the ground. It’s such a shame.
The place smells bad. Also my dog was minding her own business but was violently attacked by another dog whose owner was not paying attention to or disciplining her dog. My dog ended up with deep puncture wounds and I had to take her to the emergency vet.
3 stars for the modest amenities plus one for existing in this out of the way location, it is a major boon to the dogs in the surrounding condominiums
Been there a few times when it’s quiet but avoid now due to the cleanliness of it, it doesn’t seem to be looked after very well.
Artifical turf that leads onto sand/mud which turns to sludge and water puddle up, not so great drainage.
Fake grass needs to be cleaned more often. It smells bad, and looks bad. My dog does not like to step on it and did not move when I placed him on it. Took him next door to Esprit park and he had a ball but that park is not fenced in or an actual dog park. Please clean this one more often!
