GGP Dog Play Area 1 is a pet-friendly trail located in the heart of Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. While not a traditional fenced dog park, this open area offers more of a dog run or off-leash trail experience along Martin Luther King Jr Dr and Bowling Green Dr. Dog owners can enjoy walking their pets on natural paths, but should be aware that the upper sections have high grass with fox tails and occasional eucalyptus branches, so caution is advised in those spots.
This popular off-leash spot is ideal for those looking for dog-friendly hiking in San Francisco and features open spaces between 5th and 7th Street where dogs can run and play. The park is wheelchair accessible and welcomes all dogs, making it a local favorite for pet owners who enjoy outdoor adventures in a beautiful, urban setting.

This is an unfenced trail next to a 4 lane road, not an enclosed a dog run or play area
This dog park is more of a dog run. With most of the upper section on both side of the path full of fox tails. Which I would not want my dog running through especially once it’s dried. But between 5th and 7th st is more of an open area with no high grass to throw a ball. Just beware of lots of dead or dying eucalyptus branches/spars.
