Located in the heart of Rutherford, New Jersey, Sunset Park (also called Sunset Memorial Park) is a peaceful, scenic strip perfect for local dog owners seeking a tranquil environment. Perched on the side of a hill, this park is known for its shaded memorial trees, pleasant walking paths, and picturesque vistas. While not a dedicated dog park, the park’s uphill and downhill trails make for a great cardio workout for both you and your pup, offering a dog-friendly hiking experience in Bergen County.
The park features a small pavilion, benches for seating, a commemorative garden, and plenty of natural shade from mature trees. Although fencing, dedicated dog areas, and dog-specific amenities are not present, the serene environment is ideal for leashed walks. Families will enjoy the passive, relaxed atmosphere, and the proximity to local streets offers easy access for Rutherford residents looking for a pet-friendly stroll.
Amazing little park. Nice and Peaceful.
Very good. It is very nice for children to sit on the rock.
Sunset Park, also known as Sunset Memorial Park, is tiny narrow strip of land, two blocks long and a half block wide stretching from Union Avenue on the south, to Washington Avenue on the north, sided by Jackson Avenue on the west, dedicated as a memorial to those citizens of the Borough of Rutherford who served our country and perished during what is now known as World War 1. Throughout the circumference of the park one can find memorial trees planted and dedicated to those servicemen. On the Union Avenue side a nice little garden is planted, while on the Washington Avenue side there is a small pavilion with a commemorative set of headstones with several dedicated plaques, along with a key stone which shows exactly where each memorial tree is located. Just off to the side of the pavilion is a set of benches for that passive park feel, and near the center of the park is a short walking path between Jackson and Raymond set on a diagonal and on an uphill downhill incline for cardio benefits.
Beautiful new park that was open just few years back. Kids love it.
Pretty little park. Tiny, quiet, perched on the side of a hill. I like to walk a few laps here because the steep elevation change makes it a nice workout.
The bad: this summer I get bitten by a mosquito every time I go; only happens here.
