Rockbridge

Rockbridge offers a natural hiking experience with out-and-back trails that showcase beautiful views including a rock bridge and river scenery. The trails are more suited for experienced hikers due to their steepness, roots, and occasional muddy conditions. The park is dog-friendly, though it lacks extensive amenities and upkeep compared to other nearby natural spots. Visitors should be prepared for a rustic, nature-oriented visit with limited facilities.

Be aware that parking at “Boulders Edge Cabin” is a 1.5 – 2 mile hike out with elevation changes. We thought we could park all the way out near Rockbridge but its a private drive in real life. Not a very special walk out like other Hocking Hills caves where you see cool rock formations. Its a plane woods walk and the boom, a weirdly cool rock bridge. Out and back will be 45 minutes at a fast walk.
Driving the way Google maps takes you will not get you there instead such the rock bridge state nature preserve. it’s right off the highway, not near the rail road , but the trail is a lot of ups and downs lots of roots and not all paved
The hike is absolutely worth it. Unfortunately, it had just rained, and was really muddy on the trail that takes you down below, so we skipped that view on this journey. A suggestion I would make is more communication on the trail while going to and from the site. There were some points where the trail would fork, and we weren’t sure which one to take. We found our way though, and the Rockbridge was breathtaking.
Compared to all the other hikes and natural beauty in Hocking, Rockbridge is neat, but not worth revisiting again and again. The trails need some serious upkeep, they feel forgotten . The hike out is not for beginners, if it’s a warm day, bring water and a good set of hiking shoes, it gets very steep and lots of roots to trip over.
It was a neat natural feature, but overshadowed by lack of upkeep and signage.
The bridge is fantastic! Just be careful if it’s icy!! There are gorgeous views at the bottom and if you follow the trail to the end you get a nice view of the river.
