Great spot. The only thing I don’t like about it is it was created in 1997 which should absolutely NOT be 25 years ago because that makes me feel old.
Really great place. I have a family member memorial here, awesome too see. Plus I went here to come through the river for rocks, tons of quartz and jasper!
Nice landscapeing, good seating, and next to the Clinton River Trail. Includes parking, water, and toilets.
Well maintained park, but very little parking, even with the overflow lot across the street.
This is a nice starting point for an excellent bike ride on the Clinton River Trail. You have several options to ride and all are fun and amazing with different levels of difficulty.
The pathway is partly paved in spots, but also consists of crushed gravel which can be challenging when wet. I generally like to ride a mountain bike but if you stay on these paths and don’t venture off trail and into all the park mountain bike trails along the way you will be fine on any bike.
If you head East there is a really fabulous little series of waterfalls…if you turn up the Rochester/Paint Creek trail you will pass additional waterfalls and ride thru a pretty and often crowded downtown pathway which then leads to a wide nicely packed pathway with a slight grade heading North. This goes past several parks. If you enjoy an endurance ride like I do, you can ride all the way to Lake Orion! If I ride to Lake Orion, I usually ride thru the nice downtown and stop to have lunch/dinner at Fork and Pint. The food is great and they also have a nice selection of craft beer, perfect to fuel my ride back. The ride back is really enjoyable and much less work as it goes downhill slightly, but highly noticeable after the long ride up!
Another option is to follow the trail East. This will lead past some truly epic Great Blue Heron Nests (if you ride in spring).
You can go off trail and ride into Bloomer Park – beware as the trails are not marked and graded for difficulty and you could find yourself screaming as you hurtle down a hill that seems more appropriate for a roller coaster. The trails here are much more rustic and challenging for the uninitiated or inexperienced. Beware if you are unsure. It’s also somewhat challenging to find your way back out to the Stoney Creek trail.
You can also ride further and if motivated…take an incredibly long, steep and challenging ride up a winding path to Stoney Creek Metropark. Here you can find some of the best labelled and graded flow mountain bike trails around. Please follow signs and if you are inexperienced do not attempt to ride the harder blue or black trails! The beginner trails are truly fun with nice optional challenges for the experienced riders. If you are a thrill seeker you will have a blast and never want to leave. If you take the “Back Nine” blue and black trails you will find truly amazing heart pounding hills and stunt challenges of all kinds. I’m no longer interested in getting airborne on my bike but it is easy to do if you are!
You can also ride the trail to Romeo which I have not done in a long time. If you go West on the trail I find it not as enjoyable as it dumps out into a path along a street, but may be worth exploring.
This is a long trail so remember to bring lots of water and snacks, sunscreen and layers of clothing depending on weather.
