Thrasher Park offers a welcoming dog park in Roanoke, Virginia, conveniently situated near Old Vinton Mill Road. The park provides a fenced area where dogs are free to play and socialize off-leash, making it a standout location for dog owners in the area. Friendly local visitors and a variety of dogs create a warm and social atmosphere, helping both pets and owners make new friends. With its proximity to major roads, local eateries like Hardee’s and Dairy Queen, and the nearby Vinton Library, it’s a convenient stop for those enjoying pet-friendly trails and activities in Roanoke.
The Thrasher Park dog area features a watering station for dogs, ample parking, and a playground for families. While seating is limited—consisting of one plastic chair and a picnic table—and some visitors have noted uneven park maintenance, many return to find improved conditions and appreciate the shaded playground and play fields. The park allows dogs off-leash in its designated enclosure, making it a great spot for energetic pets to enjoy the outdoors. Nearby amenities include basketball courts, baseball fields, and playgrounds, offering something for the whole family.
We brought our two fur babies to play in dog park. Wish the seating area had better seating. One plastic chair and a wooden picnic table that had seen better days. As we live a distance away I’m not sure how much this part of the park gets used. The playground is very nice with picnic tables etc. Good for groups/ large families.
Good parking. Decent playground that, by 6pm when we went, was completely in the shade. Basketball court and baseball field. There did seem to be a building on the property that could have been public restrooms but I didn’t check to make sure. It’s right next to Hardee’s and Dairy Queen and some gas stations, and the Vinton Library is around 5 minutes away so good location. I think there was even more to the park, like a walkway, but didn’t have time to explore.
No where for the “pet parents” to sit, gates do not latch well, and the grass is bare. Came home muddy, but my dog was tired. The watering area was nice for my dog.
I’m from out of town I was wanting a place to let my dog run, fenced in and that they do have that. It could be really nice the grass was halfway up to my knee, make a long story short it’s not the best kept park I’ve been to It can be really really nice for your four-legged friends if they keep up the maintenance.I I visited on a Saturday morning, and there was still leftover people from Friday night. Absolutely not a place to let your kids run and play!!!!! Despite the nice kids playground!! ******Edit/update on 8/2021. Made another visit this time on a Saturday morning what a big difference, Grass was very well maintained and there was no questionable people around which made for very nice morning with my dogs. I knew this park could be as good as it was today WTG 👍👍 and thanks!!!!! Roanoke County
Visiting and found this place – fairly well taken care of, friendly people, lovely dogs. My little one made friends with a rotty
