Always lovely and I’m also reminded how hard people work to keep this place beautiful. It’s spotless, but if you see something, pick it up anyway.I’m particularly impressed with what the Ridgefield Coservancy has done to insure that this space be kept natural and beautiful. This is a beautiful space approaching Windwing Lake.My only sadness here is the absence of deer. The hunting club by the highway and some off season poachers have basically turned desolate this area of Connecticut from the number of deer that would typically occupy this terrain. By contrast, we have abundant deer in Westchester where the locals didn’t kill all the deer. How many years will it take for Pine Mountain and Hemlock Hills to get its deer back? The killing has mostly stopped but only because they ran out of deer. Given the opportunity it would probably persist again. Stop killing the deer!So this is what they have left you. While there are no deer, it is still so beautiful. The pic of foliage is a reminder when one of the best times of year is to visit. In winter wear Katoolas for ice, in Spring hike mid day to avoid the nats, in Summer you may want to bring water, in Fall you’ll have a phone camera for the foliage and Lake water reflections. And all year I am grateful that Hemlock Hills are even here.My only double secret advice has to do with the labyrinth of trails just East or left, that will trap you going either South or North. The escape key is to walk West until you return to the main trail. Ya can get lost for days.. (humor)Worth the stroll and the return down hill. Clear parking at Hemlock Hills. We were on a hike of the Hemlock Lake area and came across Lake Windwing. There were a few properties on the lake so you can’t walk around the lake. The lake itself was calm and clear. The surrounding area was adequately maintained.
We happen to come upon this place during a brief rest from a long drive. The time of the year and everything make it a great opportunity for a quick photo of the lake. I hope to come back again in the winter.
I love this place and all the trails that go with it. it has been a refuge for me during the pandemic. it is teeming with wildlife and the waterfall never gets old.
