Located conveniently at 225 Columbia Turnpike, the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail East Greenbush Trailhead Parking Lot in Rensselaer, New York, offers direct access to the popular Albany-Hudson Electric Trail. This spot is ideal for pet owners seeking dog-friendly hiking and pet-friendly trails around the Capital Region. The parking area is behind a police station, giving visitors an added sense of security and safety when starting their outdoor adventure.
The trail is well-maintained, with ample parking and smoothly paved paths that make it easy for walkers, bikers, and their four-legged friends. However, shaded areas are limited, so be prepared on sunny or especially hot days. The trail itself starts after a short walk through a quiet neighborhood, and while there is beautiful scenery, some sections run alongside the road. It’s a great option for those looking for a well-kept, accessible location for dog walks and outdoor exercise in Rensselaer, NY.
Although the trail section we were on (nassau lake) was very well maintained, it is very open and no shade at all on a very hot day. We cut our ride short since it was so hot. I would not recommend bring dogs on the trail due to hot pavement
Also not much to see, most of that section just was alongside of the road. Again, I was only on a small section to be fair.
