FAQ for Nur Pon Open Space in Redding California:
This is our favorite off leash spot. Lots of spots for the pups to take a dip. Everyone I’ve met has been very friendly and so have their dogs. The storybook walk is also very cute.
Are you kidding me, this is the best off leash dog park anywhere. The people that walk their dogs here are the best, and all the dogs are friendly. My dog loves it. PS, my dog is a rescue, I would say 90% of the people I meet walking their dogs are also rescue dog owners. What a great community of people and puppies!! I have never saw any illegal camping in the park, decent park security presence and very little trash. This might have been a issue in the past, I just don’t see it. Public restrooms in parks are always sketchy, so no surprise there.
My dog and I love walking and running here. Dogs can go off leash which is a plus for my Aussie. Great place for my little man to throw rocks and pretend he’s fishing. The river is so beautiful. The walking bridges add a nice touch. The city does a really good job keeping it clean and brush cleared so homeless aren’t hanging around. You might see a couple of homeless walking around but not squatting.
Love this place! I bring my dog here all the time! People have been respectful. I always ask if it’s ok for my dog to play with theirs before I let him get close and have not had any issues. It’s also close to the river so my dog can get a drink and cool off during hot summer walks. About half of the loop is in the sun and the other half in the shade, but there is shade throughout. There are also benches were you can sit and watch the river go by while your dog sniffs to their heart’s content.
This park is OK for people, but good for dogs. This is an off-leash big natural trail dog park, so if that is what you are looking for, this park is awesome. As far as a people park goes though, It is not as clean and well kept as it was in these zoomed in photos, and unfortunately you can see the industrial buildings next to the park from inside it. Not sure if it’s all the traffic on the bridge/road or something in the environment, but the air just kind of smells dirty here. Powerlines run right through it too. However, if you are a boater, they have a ton of boater only parking and river access which is pretty cool. There were some homeless in the park, but they weren’t causing any trouble. This park is locked from dusk to dawn.
