The Cupsuptic Lake Trail once offered a unique experience for those seeking dog-friendly hiking in the beautiful wetland areas of Rangeley, Maine. This trail was known for its scenic lakeside views, wooden boardwalks, and peaceful atmosphere, making it a memorable destination for pet lovers searching for a quiet walk with their dogs. Visitors frequently commented on the trail being short and manageable, perfect for a quick stroll or sandwich break with your furry companion.
However, as of July 2025, the Cupsuptic Lake Trail is Permanently Closed due to maintenance difficulties in the wetland environment. Previous guests reported overgrown paths and closures at the trailhead before the official announcement. If you’re exploring dog parks in Rangeley, Maine, be sure to check local updates for alternative pet-friendly trails nearby.
Trail is currently closed at the trailhead. Seems to not have been maintained.
Honestly a fun trail for a severely pregnant woman looking to take her dog on a walk and eat a sandwich. A little overgrown on the boardwalk, but short and sweet.
Great trail! When you get there it might be nice to let the campground next to it know you are there since you have to park on their land. When you drive in there is a garage to the left of the entrance. Park in the back of the lot and walk towards the boat trailers parked in the field.
If there has been a lot of rain plan to be walking on submerged boards closer to the lake side of the path. It’s a single trail that doesn’t have a loop but is well worth it. Bring a walking stick!
July 28th, 2025 PERMANENTLY CLOSED
I went to go hike this and found out from someone who works in the camp store nearby this trail has been PERMANENTLY CLOSED due to the difficultly of maintenance in a wetland environment. So save yourself the trip.
