Great trail that is safe, well kept and excellent for cycling, running or walking your dog.
Paved trail to Towpath park or east to Royersford. Lots of parking and the parking lot is not gated, always open.
When the parking lot and last leg of the trail were being constructed last year the trailhead had a ‘closed sign’ posted. They also put barricades up to keep people from parking in the lot. Instead of going to a different trail head, numerous ignorant individuals parked alongside the road by the ‘closed’ trail on old schuylkill road and made a mess out of the grass in doing so. They also left garbage lay all over the place and one person left their broken baby stroller sitting there. People even moved the parking lot barricades and constantly parked in the closed parking lot. Something needs to be done to stop the ignorance and the trashiness that keeps moving into this area. There are crosswalks to use and they have electronic signals with a button to push in order to cross the street safely. Many many times I have sat waiting for a green light at the intersection and as my light turned green pedalcycle people would just cross the street without waiting for a ‘ok to cross’ signal. If people want to cross the road at intersections where electronic signals are available then i would suggest they do so by obeying the law and that is to USE THE SIGNAL and stop walking out in front of traffic. Also, pedal people need to be held accountable for every time they cross the road without first stopping at the end of the trail where its clearly marked with a stop sign. You want to pedal around then learn to obey the laws of the roadm, otherwise sty off the roads. They are nothing but nuisances.
Nice new parking lot had a good spot on the trail 2 mi to Frick’s lock. Handicap accessible and totally paved. No restrooms though
