Cherry Park is a highly popular dog park in Portland, Oregon, offering a large, open space for dogs to run and play freely. Located conveniently at Cherry City Park on SE Stephens Street, this off-leash area is beloved for its spacious grassy fields, scenic shade from tall trees, and friendly community atmosphere. The park features a partially fenced area that provides ample space for energetic pups, while shaded trails and benches make it comfortable for dog owners. With a dirt trail stretching nearly 3/4 of a mile and plenty of dog socialization opportunities, Cherry Park is a go-to destination for Portland pet owners seeking dog-friendly hiking and exercise in a natural setting.
While the park boasts a lush, green environment and frequent visits from friendly locals, visitors should be aware that it is only partially fenced, with several open exits leading to neighborhood streets. Water bowls and occasional jugs are provided by patrons, though it’s recommended to bring your own water. Street parking is available near the entrance, and the park is easily accessible via public transportation. Do note that the park can get muddy during the rainy season and may present accessibility challenges for wheelchair users when bark chips are freshly laid. Overall, Cherry Park offers a picturesque, pet-friendly retreat perfect for outdoor adventures with your dog in Portland.
I love it here! However Portland parks and recreation recently has laid down thick bark chips that have made this park almost completely inaccessible for me as a wheelchair user. I used to love this park now I can’t go through it at all, I’ve contacted the city and will delete this post if it is fixed
This is a great park for dogs and humans who love them. That said, fair warnings: spring giardia has made my dog sick twice, yes there are coyotes so keep small dogs close to you, and for some reason people who don’t spay/neuter dogs are attracted to this park. We’ve had some frustrating experiences with intact pit bulls. Otherwise, great park!!! Especially when it’s not wet and rainy.
Pros:
– HUGE area
– Trail around the entire park (dirt)
– Grass with some dirt patches (mostly grass)
– Tree/Forresty area
– A bench on each end
– Water (people bring it, so sort of a con as well, as it’s not a hose or spigot)
– Plentiful and lush salad buffet throughout
– Clean
Cons:
– Half fenced, both entrances on each side are not fenced, along with one in the center. Leads to dead end roads in neighborhood.
– One trash can (at the front)
– Possible coyotes
Partially fenced off leash dog park that is bigger than it appears. Has shadded trails and a large sunny field. I would not recommend this park for dogs with bad recall (unless they are leashed) as there are several openings that lead onto neighborhood streets. Trail is almost 3/4 of a mile. One of the park neighbor’s is nice enough to put out jugs of water for the dogs but it never hurts to bring your own just in case. Always lots of doggy friends to play with. Park could use more garbage cans… Only one and its located at the front of the park.
Awesome off leash, partially fenced in dog area. Lots of space to run. Safe and tucked away in the end of the neighborhood in a dead end of the street. The park has a long stretch of grassy land to play safe away from the road. Lots of tree cover, benches, trails, water bowls all around.
Beautiful park, especially in the fall with all the colors and contrasts. All the pups seem friendly and well behaved. Lots of street parking. Will absolutely be back again.
