Hikes about 3 hrs checking out Some of the trails today that are back out here. There is parking in different locations for this area.I ended up walking on a gravel road to cross over to head to more trails. It’s a easier hike to do. A lot of bugs in the area though.

The reservoir is very pretty and I saw some interesting birds. I enjoy the trail system in the area. There are two trailheads and a parking area at the end of Old Marlborough Turnpike. Each trail takes you around each side of the reservoir and connects up with many other trails.
You can go south towards Lake Poctopaug in East Hampton down to Route 66 and connect up with the Shenipset and Airline trails, or go East through Meshomasic State Forest all the way to Marchand Open Space in Glastonbury, near route 2. To the NE is one of the Nike missile sites.
I did not find any of trails I’ve done so far to be difficult, although sometimes they are poorly marked. There was one water crossing on the main trail near the reservoir that was a little challenging. I rarely encounter other people.

Beautiful view of the water and the surrounding state forest. A great place to walk your dogs or bring the kids for a scenic hike. Several different trails to explore, and ample parking opportunities. A great place to watch the foliage change in the fall too!
