Free entry. Parking lot fits about 10 cars but there’s usually space. There’s also additional parking not too far from this one lot as well. Trails are maintained extraordinarily well and are designed to fulfill the challenge of almost every experience level and to close a loop. I did the entirety of the Southside trail and I’d say the difficulty rating given in their trail map is a fair assessment. You can finish the ridge loop in under an hour but reaching the midpoint to the raft of north-side trail might take an hour. There are hardly any rocks embedded on the path so it is also ideal to go barefoot (if that’s your thing) or trail running. Dogs are welcome. No motor vehicles on the trail. There are markers constantly so you might not even need a map. There are also several sights to see and benches to sit on for when you need a break. Honestly one of the best gems in Maryland. I love it!
Great trails for daily dog walking or simply disconnecting from a busy, noisy, crowded life. If I lived in the area and wasn’t just a visitor – I’d totally hike in this park on the regular. Even thou the trials are very well marked , for the first timers I’d recommend snapping a picture of the map (maps are also available to take with you) – we did end up looping the purple one twice just because we didn’t inspect the map well of where to get off towards the parking lot.Pictures from the late October , and the “Archy branch” is located on the Laurel Loop trail. This park has a lot of trails that are well marked but don’t feel like they are overrun even when fairly busy with people enjoying nature.Don’t forget to log your hikes in as some of the grant funding to maintain this beautiful land comes as result of documented use.It was a really nice spot to hike with moderate, very manageable elevation. Switchbacks are gentle for the most part. Anyone with a lot of trouble with knees might consider trekking poles, but I didn’t find them necessary.This is a swampy area so be prepared for bugs and mud depending on when you go. On the whole a great Memorial Day hike spot to help melt away angst and stress. Enjoy !
Wonderful place to get outside! Although parking lot is small, the trails are plentiful. Various levels of trails…all brightly marked. Porta potty in parking lot, dogs must be on leash, park entrance is free. One picnic table in field by parking lot. Nice way to spend the day.
Trails are pretty well maintained. Very friendly and helpful volunteer staff. Some elevation changes in the trails that range from an easy walk to difficult. Some history mixed in with a cemetery that dates back to the 1700’s. Very enjoyable and peaceful hikes
