Nestled in the heart of Pleasant Valley, New York, the Taconic Hereford Multiple Use Area offers over 900 acres of rolling hills, wooded forests, and a network of scenic, pet-friendly trails. Known locally as a hub for mountain biking, hiking, and nature walks, this park provides plenty of space for you and your dog to explore the great outdoors. Nature lovers appreciate the tranquil environment, abundant wildlife, and opportunities to spot turtles, birds, and other native species along the trails. While not a traditional fenced dog park, the area is beloved by local adventurers seeking dog-friendly hiking in Dutchess County, NY.
The trails at Taconic Hereford are well-marked, with varying levels of difficulty, making them suitable for casual walkers as well as more experienced hikers and bikers. Parking lots are conveniently located, though they can sometimes be limited during peak hours. While most of the area is natural and rustic, you’ll find basic amenities like parking, picnic spots, and occasional benches scattered along the paths. After your hike, consider visiting nearby pet-friendly establishments or local shops in Pleasant Valley for a complete day out with your pup.
Great places for easy hikes. Lots of trails . 909 acres and perfect for MTB.
One of my favorite low key primitive camping areas, you go in far enough its like your middle of no where.
Sadly its not really a multiple use areas as it used to be, rarely these days is the gate open, so family safari, or camping is tough.
Place was roughly used in its past so I get the lock down these days, it has made it cleaner and quieter which I enjoy.
Camping is tough sometimes, 150ft from a trail is almost impossible as bike trails are all over the place as if it is the only thing to enjoy.
But it has not stopped me, nor should it you, just keep it clean and enjoy, great place to have a 420 safety meeting.
Sorry for the 1 but I was very disappointed to find locked gates at the “multiple use” area last week. I always enjoyed driving through with my jeep. It was a family outing. It’s been some years since i previously visited. When was that embargo placed on my old favorite off road spot? How do bicyclists seem to take every place? Doesn’t seem right. Can anyone from the state answer that? Thanks.
My first time here on the mountain bike.
Tons of trails to ride on, and the routes are readily apparent as you roll along. I used the TrailForks app to help me keep track of my riding directions.
Rode Timbucktwo which was a nice trail with a little bit of everything, yeah mountain bike heaven out here.
Not only Mountain biking , but if you are big into 4 wheeling you could do that too, with some impressive Jeep climbs.
Overall nice place, I’ll have to go a few more times to hit some more of the trails . There really is no bad lot to park in either lol.
Enjoy Ride hard n be safe..
I love this place. Great MTB trails, hiking and my absolute favorite spot in the Hudson Valley to meditate. The peaceful natural surrounding if you go deep enough is very relaxing.
