Located in the heart of Pittsburgh, Southside Works Dog Park is a popular destination for local dog owners and their pups. Known for its vibrant, pet-friendly atmosphere, this Pittsburgh dog park offers designated spaces for dogs to roam and socialize off-leash. With events often happening in the nearby Southside Works Town Square and dog-welcoming businesses, this park stands out as a convenient, community-focused spot for city dwellers.
The park features multiple fenced sections—including a small dog area, a regular area for all sizes, and a section where owners can enjoy a beverage. Amenities such as picnic tables, benches, water fountains for dogs, and waste stations (though sometimes empty) make visits easy for both pets and people. Its accessibility, friendly environment, and proximity to pet-friendly stores and eateries make it a favorite choice among Pittsburgh dog parks, though potential for mud after rain and occasional maintenance lapses are noted by visitors.
A year ago, this place was great. But now, it clearly shows a lack of maintenance—it feels almost abandoned. There’s mud everywhere, and where there used to be grassy areas, it’s just dirt now. Since the heavy rain and wind last season, the wood chips have never been replaced, so the park stays extremely muddy.
Two recurring issues with park users: many dog owners don’t pick up after their pets (even though there are plenty of bag stations always stocked), and some people use the dog water fountain area to give their dogs a full-on bath.
It’s a shame, because this used to be one of the best spots in the area.
went on a weekend trip and this dog park was great. good beer and very nice people. unfortunately came home and my dog has contracted kennel cough. please be aware and cautious when taking your dog to an open park
I live 45 mins away & have a dog park right by me but prefer the drive for this one. I have a 6 month old energetic pitbull and usually at the place near me, people are ignorant and leave when they see a pit. At this park everyone is friendly and doesn’t discriminate against the breed. My Dior loves it here!
The dog park is always being used and is well-maintained although the dog bags could be refilled a little more often. Always see people here using the dog park especially on the weekends when they are doing events with pins mechanical company across the street and Hollywood feed on the other side of Southside Works town Square.
Very nice and convenient. It has three different sections of park; small area, regular area and an area where the owners can grab a beer. Not to mention there is an area (leash only) next to it where you can bring your dog.
However, make sure you bring your own dog poop bags the park is always out of those.
