Great place to go tubing. Put in at Swopes Valley Trailhead and get out at Sand Siding Trailhead. Takes about 3.5 hours to float.

This trail has become one of our families favorite local destinations the past few years. The trailhead itself has recently gotten an actual bathroom, which was great, and an upgrade from the porta potty that was there last time we went. There isn’t any running water, but still great to just have that. This is the trailhead that gets the closest to the fossil pit. For my little explorer’s it’s the best way to spend an afternoon looking for fossils. It probably takes us maybe 10-15min to walk to the pit. We all enjoy digging around and finding fossils. We find anything from seashell fossils, small marine animals, and even some fish scales one time. My husband is determined on finding an ammonite, as others have been able to find some there as well. We have been able to find fossils all over the hill and even just laying around. A hammer and chisel makes it alot easier to find good fossils though. There isn’t much shade on the hill so make sure to bring sunscreen, and plenty to drink as it gets pretty hot in the summer exposed on the hill. Have fun!!

Parked at Swopes Valley Trailhead then rode my bike. About 1 mile in is the fossil site and at approximately 2.5 miles to Bordners cabin.
