Very unremarkable trail in August. Except for the main red path, trail markers are difficult to spot. Yellow trail is not maintained at all and has become very overgrown. The main trail sign has been shot several times: wasps have infested the corkboard through the bullet holes. Lots of glass in the parking lot. In August, red trail offers no real views of the valley. It also has a few areas with trash and discarded appliances or furniture.
On the bright side, it is nice and cool and there are a couple creeks to pass over. Lots of mushrooms to spot too.
Overall however, skip at this time of year and come back another time.
Very beautiful trail! Rocky and uneven so be careful, but you don’t have to go far to enjoy the sights. I stop by just to sit on a rock and breathe fresh air sometimes.
Excellent views along Long Path trail hiking at peak foliage season. It is Gunks at its best. Relatively secluded forest with free parking despite nearby Sam’s Point preserve being full at capacity.
This place is magical.. it has everything to bring you down to nature.. my son absolutely had so much fun to be able to watch my dog experience everything was amazing.. this place definitely holds a place forever with me
This parking is great if you want to do a short loop following the yellow trail. You can also take it to see the waterfall or enjoy the trail to the old route 52. You can also hike the trail to SRT and enjoy some amazing views.
