FAQ for Peninsula Campground in Pilot Hill California:
My initial experience wasn’t great here because of the State of California website. Be sure to never follow the directions on the states website nor listen to the address on the automated number. The address listed is 52 Minutes from the actual location !! Also the map on there doesn’t accurately show the locations. If you can pay on arrival after you see, if you can’t you want spots in the 30s. Man was all of the above frustrating but after finally arriving the on site staff was actually amazing. Lisa in particular was so so helpful and made good on all the bad. She was attentive, reachable and treated us so well my review went from 1-2 stars back to 5. Call the site directly if you can because the state is clueless and helpless. Infact when I got to the wrong location the guy at the gate was like this happens all the time…so I’m surprised no one has brought it to the states attention but me…or have they? Who knows with CA. Pay more and expect the least is the old golden state motto! Regardless we had the best girls camping trip the location was perfect and the water was clear and not too cold 10/10 would recommend this location to others just try to avoid all state resources because they’re super wrong!! Thanks Lisa you’re a gem we’ll be back to see you soon!!
Nice morning stroll around the grounds amongst the lavender bushes.
If you’ve ever wanted to simulate sleeping on a busted staircase while being serenaded by the scent of raw sewage, Peninsula Campground is your dream destination. Every campsite here is a cruel experiment in finding new angles for your spine to bend. I woke up feeling like I went ten rounds with a grizzly bear, and lost.Speaking of bears, even they steer clear of this dump, likely due to the weaponized stench wafting from the porta-potties. I’ve seen horror movies with cleaner facilities. You know it’s bad when a grown man turns down using it while approaching the toilet. The beach? Don’t even think about it unless your idea of a relaxing day includes navigating boulders, driftwood, and ankle-breaking rocks. I’ve seen war zones with better sand.As for the hiking trail, it’s less of a trail and more of a disappearing act. Sections are so eroded I thought I was on a scavenger hunt for the path itself. If you’re looking for a peaceful weekend getaway, run. If you’re training to survive a post-apocalyptic wasteland….this is your paradise.
Always beautiful. Great place for lots of photo ops. Little store with quaint gifts. They’re only open a couple of weeks a year so when you see them open make sure you visit.
Some of the sites are a little small (hard to fit 2 tents) and the ground is impossibly hard (on the uphill section).Nice bathroom and showers (bring quarters!!). Plenty of water spigots, water was good.Beautiful views. Way too many mosquitoes.
Great place to camp, not too busy and great views! Bit out of the way but there’s also mountain bike trails all around the peninsula. Some mosquitos so bring bug spray.
Really nice to visit & meet you, Mr. Teacher 😁. Thanks for muck for relaxing friendly atmosphere, lavender aroma and complete relax after long hard working week. Love your ranch!
Awesome place to camp. Other campsites near Bay Area are always full. Though this one is a little bit far away but definitely worthy of coming. The road might be too winding so need to drive very carefully and slowly. Many people would be here and play around so we feel very safe to stay. Overall I would like to come here again.
This place is Amazing. Beautiful setting with awesome sunsets and lush lavender fields when in season. Undoubtably the Best place for great photo shots.
