Brooks Woodland Preserve offers pet-friendly hiking in a gorgeous, well-cared-for forest setting located in Petersham, MA. Known for its serene and peaceful atmosphere, this natural area provides scenic trails that wind along the swift river and through lush woodlands, making it an ideal spot for dog owners who enjoy exploring the outdoors with their pets. The preserve is celebrated for its quiet, uncrowded paths and clearly marked trails, perfect for long walks with your canine companion.
While there are no dedicated fenced dog park amenities, dogs are welcome on the trails, and the preserve’s beauty makes it stand out among dog-friendly hiking spots in Central Massachusetts. Visitors should be prepared for wet and potentially muddy conditions, especially after rain, as some areas may be flooded or mucky. Limited roadside parking is available, and bringing a trail map is highly recommended for a safe and enjoyable visit.
Lovely trails…quiet
Nice. Very wet, and flooded at several places when I visited . July 2024 Sunday afternoon hike #2. I parked “off the road” on East Street (no real lot), then hiked the western side of the Red Loop (a good portion was mucky, some parts were large puddles), I was going to do the connector trail to North Common Meadow (but it was too flooded), then I was going to the Ledges trail (that too was flooded) so I went back the way I started. This site marks my 40th Trustees location (nearly 1/3 of all of their places). For those who follow my posts, I miscalculated the other day.
Early Fall visit. Beautiful forest hike along swift river and streams. Only saw a couple other hikers all day.
Easy hiking good trail markings.
This is a gorgeous forest. Well cared for. Bring a map – although most trail intersections have a map posted.
Beautiful hike. Peaceful and serene.
