Ledges Trailhead
Ledges Trailhead is a scenic dog-friendly hiking trail located in Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Peninsula, OH. The trail features beautiful rock formations, easy to moderate hiking paths, and kid-friendly short loop hikes. It’s wheelchair accessible and offers amenities such as picnic tables, barbecue grills, and public restrooms. The park is great for dogs and families, providing shaded areas and opportunities for photography and outdoor adventure in a peaceful natural setting.

For a short walk in the woods, this trail performed very well. There are lots of interesting things to look at and enjoy in nature along your walk. The trail is nice and very easy to navigate.
The Ledges Trail is an excellent hike featuring incredible rock formations. The trail was very well-maintated and ranged from easy to moderate. There’s so much interesting scenery and amazing nature to explore.
This is an awesome, short trail that has a lot to offer. I think its great that this National Park is free and located so close to a major airport (Cleveland Hopkins) and its also close to Akron-Canton regional airport as well. Its a very remote park in a not that remote of a place. Its rather fascinating. This has been one of my favorite National Park experiences to date.
Our favorite hike that we did our entire weekend trip to Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It was so beautiful and felt like an enchanted forest! I would definitely recommend doing the longest loop hike they have. It gave the best views of all the ledges. And we even got to go in between some of the ledges!
We visited on a cloudy Saturday afternoon in mid-April 2025.
The ledge trail is a great easy trail with a big reward at the end. We’ve seen similar rock formations at a hike in Virginia called the Channels. It was much bigger but also multiple mile hike in. This hike was less than a mile and you got to see all the cool rock formations.
The kids loved crawling through the rock formations. It’s not big enough here that they would get lost but there are some spots which could be tricky if they got stuck so don’t let younger kids wander too far on their own.
You don’t have to do the entire hike to see the ledges, you can take a direct route there and there are short cut back trails to the parking lot.
We did the trail counter clockwise and saw the closed off cave first. You cross the little bridge and there is a small crack in the rock maybe 1 to 2 foot wide and that’s where it starts. You can explore all the way through until you reach a bunch of stone steps. You can hike up the steps and back to the parking lot. If you’re tight on time this is a fantastic hike.
Because of the weather there weren’t very many people here. Lots of opportunities to take pictures without other people in them. We ran into maybe 6 or 7 groups the entire hike which was much fewer than we expected to run into on a Saturday.
If we were in the area, this would be a great hour or so adventure we’d do again just wandering through the rocks. Highly recommend of even the most beginner of hikers.
