Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Located in the scenic area of Pedro, Ohio, Rock House Trailhead is an excellent spot for dog lovers looking to experience nature with their pets. This pet-friendly trail features a blacktop path through the woods, making it accessible for both families and those with mobility aids, including wheelchairs. The paved trail leads to the impressive Rock House cave, crossing a picturesque small creek along the way. While it’s a short, easy walk (about an hour round trip), the destination and the journey are both rewarding for owners and their dogs.
Rock House Trailhead isn’t a traditional dog park with fenced play spaces, but it welcomes leashed dogs for on-trail adventures. Families will also find it suitable for kids, thanks to the easy terrain and interesting rock formations. Visitors should be aware of poison ivy along the path—keep dogs to the center of the trail for safety. With friendly staff, accessible amenities, and beautiful views, this trailhead offers a memorable outdoor option for dog-friendly hiking in Lawrence County.
This is a good trail for those who have difficulty walking or need to use other aids such as wheelchairs. There is a blacktop path through the woods that ends at a bridge that crosses over a small creek into the rock house. There is a large wooden deck at the other side of the bridge inside the rock house that is wheelchair accessible. One caution I would give is there is one area of the pathway that is somewhat steeper sloped so those in wheelchairs may need to have assistance. Also there is a significant amount of poison ivy lining both sides of the pathway. Be careful not to come in contact with it. If you are walking a dog on a leash take care to keep the dog in the center of the pathway so it does not get into poison ivy which will ultimately end up coming in contact with you when the dog gets back in a vehicle or someone pets it.
All though it was a short ride for us wr enjoyed our time there. The lady at the office was very friendly and helpful.
Rock House trail was fun but the real beauty of the trail isn’t until you get into the cave “Rock House”.
I didn’t see anything about The Rock House on Google Maps and no signs at the boat dock parking lot where the paved path begins, all the way at the back of the parking lot. The paved path to The Rock House is made easier for everyone to be able to see this amazing part of the park.
We arrived at the park on a rainy day and it was nice to see a paved trail available. It’s short and easy, but plenty to explore once you reach the rock house. Interesting place to visit. Hike took less than an hour both ways.
